Camel Urolithiasis
Camel Urolithiasis is a significant yet underrecognized condition affecting the urinary tract of dromedaries and Bactrian camels. This presentation offers a comprehensive overview beginning with an introduction to urolith formation and its relevance to camel health and productivity. We explore the types of uroliths, from struvite to calcium carbonate, followed by a review of their history, particularly in pastoral and intensive management systems. Key causes and risk factors—including nutrition, dehydration, and mineral imbalances—are examined in depth. Clinical signs and symptoms like stranguria, abdominal pain, and restlessness are outlined, alongside diagnostic methods such as ultrasonography and urinalysis. The session covers treatment and management approaches, including surgical and medical interventions, and discusses prognosis and recurrence rates. A detailed case study highlights real-world insights. Looking ahead, future prospects in prevention and monitoring are discussed. The talk concludes with our holistic solutions, comprehensive references, and highlights from our very own publications supporting a well-rounded approach to care.
