KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia, May 19, 2025 — Four senior top Chinese medical delegates from Baoding arrived in Sabah on Monday for a landmark visit to the European Wellness (EW) Premier Centre, continuing the momentum of the Germany–China regenerative medicine and autism clinical studies collaboration in China led by Prof. Mike Chan.
The visit, initiated by the Chinese government and supported by Baoding’s First Mayor Yan Jihong, follows high-level meetings in Baoding and Germany. It underscores China’s intent to expand cooperation with Malaysia in advanced autism therapies and regenerative healthcare.
Delegation Builds on Germany-China Talks
The Chinese team — Head of delegation Dr. Chen Yuping, Dr. Yang Jinlan, Dr. Bi Jing, and Dr. Zhang Yu, are top officials from Beijing Children’s Hospital, Capital Medical University, and the Baoding Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Their visit comes directly after attending the Gesundheitskongress des Westens 2025 in Cologne, where they engaged in bilateral health diplomacy and observed ongoing clinical programs in Germany.
The trip to Kota Kinabalu was part of a strategic roadmap laid out in earlier meetings between Prof. Mike Chan and Dang Xiaolong, the Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Baoding Municipal Committee. During discussions in March, Dang emphasized that talks in Germany should be followed by on-site evaluations in Sabah, positioning EW’s facilities as a model for future collaboration.
A Tour of Malaysia’s Regenerative Medicine Hub
The delegation’s visit to Sabah began early on May 19, 2025, with Prof. Mike Chan personally leading a comprehensive tour of European Wellness’s flagship facilities. Their first stop was the Baden Research and Testing Lab in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia; the group’s central R&D facility dedicated to biomarker analysis, product validation, and scientific innovation.
Next, the delegates visited the European Wellness Biomedical Group’s Logistics Center in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), which plays a key role in supporting EW’s international distribution and research operations. The group then toured Prof. Chan’s executive office, followed by the European Wellness Premier Center at Block M. Alamesra Plaza Utama — a 60,000 square-foot clinical facility equipped with advanced treatment suites. The center is part of EW’s larger 500,000 square-foot infrastructure footprint within KKIP.
The final stop was the European Wellness Academy & Showcase at Block K, Alamesra, a specialized training institute where healthcare professionals are educated in integrative and stem cell-based therapies. The full tour offered the delegation a first-hand look at how research, logistics, education, and clinical care are seamlessly integrated within the EW ecosystem.
“We showed them our full model from research and training to logistics and treatment,” said Prof. Mike Chan. “This is the blueprint for real-world regenerative healthcare.”
The comprehensive tour gave the delegation valuable insight into how Sabah is emerging as a key player in Asia’s medical innovation landscape — especially in the field of stem cell therapy for autism.
“This visit is not symbolic, it’s strategic,” said Prof. Chan, who personally hosted the delegation.
“We’re showing them how translational medicine is already changing lives in Malaysia, and how this model can be scaled, localized, and adapted to support China’s autism care goals.”
Delegation head Chen Yuping, Secretary of the Party Committee at Baoding Hospital (Beijing Children’s Hospital branch), praised the tour as “thorough, inspiring, and deeply aligned with Baoding’s long-term healthcare mission.”
Beijing Children’s Hospital: A Leader in Pediatric Healthcare
One of the key institutions represented during the Sabah tour was Beijing Children’s Hospital, a national leader in pediatric care and innovation. Heading the delegation was Chen Yuping, Secretary of the Party Committee at the hospital’s Baoding branch, who played a central role in facilitating cross-border dialogue on regenerative medicine.
Affiliated with Capital Medical University and designated as the National Center for Children’s Health (Beijing), the hospital treats millions of patients annually and houses 44 clinical departments, including specialties in pediatric surgery, respiratory medicine, and hematology-oncology. Its Hematology Oncology Center is especially renowned for achieving high cure rates in childhood leukemia through advanced therapies and stem cell transplantation.
Beyond its central campus, the hospital leads the Beijing Children’s Hospital Group (BCHG)—a regional network designed to extend quality pediatric services across multiple hospitals, allowing doctors and expertise to move more freely while keeping care accessible to patients locally.
Chen Yuping’s presence on this international visit underscored Beijing Children’s Hospital’s deep commitment to collaborative research, medical exchange, and the global advancement of pediatric and regenerative therapies.
Advancing Stem Cell Therapy for Autism
The central focus of the collaboration is the development of stem cell therapies for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With Prof. Chan’s targeted brain-and-organ specific precursor stem cells gaining recognition globally, China has expressed strong interest in clinical integration, especially in regions underserved by conventional neurodevelopmental care.
“Malaysia offers an ideal launchpad for scalable innovation,” added Chan.
“Sabah’s readiness, European Wellness’s infrastructure, and Baoding’s research muscle could make this tri-nation partnership a model for Asia.”
What Comes Next
The visit sets the stage for formal agreements between EW and leading hospitals in Baoding, including collaborative trials and physician exchange programs. The delegation is expected to deliver a full report to Chinese central health authorities upon return.
This marks the first official Chinese medical mission to Sabah focused specifically on autism care and stem cell treatment. If successful, it could trigger larger-scale investment, cross-border knowledge transfer, and pave the way for Baoding to become a national hub for regenerative pediatric medicine.
