Former Top Cop’s Fight Against Parkinson’s: A European Wellness Success Story

On Stage, Sharing Hope: Against the backdrop of the European Wellness Academy’s CNCD & Aesthetics Workshop on Aug 7, 2025, Prof. Mike Chan and Tan Sri Bakri inspire a global audience of international doctors with a live conversation on science, hope, and the future of Parkinson’s treatment.

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah (Aug 7, 2025) — At the recent 4-day European Wellness Academy’s Symposium held at their prestigious Premier Centre, Tan Sri Bakri—Malaysia’s former Deputy Inspector General of Police, took the stage not as a VIP guest, but as a powerful living example of how regenerative medicine is reshaping the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

After dedicating decades to national service—leading investigations, confronting organized crime, and upholding justice, Tan Sri Bakri found himself confronting a new challenge in retirement: the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease.

A Battle Beyond the Badge

Diagnosed after retirement, Tan Sri Bakri faced a progressive decline in speech, mobility, and confidence. “I cannot meet people around me, even my former officers,” he recalled. “I lost my confidence. I cannot laugh, I cannot make speeches, I don’t understand people around me.”

Despite trying stem cell therapies abroad in Korea and India, nothing seemed to work. “But it seems there’s no progress at all,” he admitted. That changed when he was introduced to Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan and the team at European Wellness.

A Turning Point at European Wellness

Within two weeks of receiving precursor stem cell therapy, Bakri noticed remarkable improvement. “The reaction is very good,” he said. “My frozen leg… my hand was shivering, and my speech was slow. But now I feel I’m okay. I can move again.”

More than physical changes, the treatment restored his dignity and confidence. “I feel that I gained my confidence to talk to people. I’m giving lectures again to junior police officers and university students. I can drive myself again.”

Restoring Mobility and Independence

“I can walk easily now. My frozen feet—no pain anymore,” said Bakri. “I even drive long distances from my house. Before this, my focus was blurry. Now, it’s really improved.”

He praised the world-class environment at European Wellness in Kota Kinabalu, calling it “One big beautiful centre” unlike anything he experienced in other countries. “I was treated like a king,” he said. “The doctors here are the best. They always explain every step and give you the confidence to go on.”

Prof. Mike Chan: A Doctor’s Vision

Prof. Mike Chan, who co-hosted the session, offered deep insights into the science behind Bakri’s recovery.

“Two hands couldn’t hold a cup. I honestly couldn’t understand what he was saying,” Prof. Chan recalled of their first meeting. “Today, he’s driving and playing pickleball. It’s a joy to witness.”

Prof. Chan stressed the need to treat not just the brain, but the entire body:

We targeted specifically the Substantia Nigra—the area of the brain responsible for dopamine production, the most depleted element in Parkinson’s. But we didn’t stop there. Every other lobes and parts of the brain also needs coordination and synergy apart from specific organs in the body. We monitored his blood work closely to avoid further risks, like diabetes, or organ failure.

The medical team also detected early signs of prostate cancer, prompting early intervention. “We advised him to undergo prostate surgery first before proceeding. That’s how tailored and careful this program is,” said Prof. Chan.

The Science of Regeneration

Prof. Chan elaborated:

Every organ can be regenerated—as long as there are living tissues. Even if they’re dying, we can revive them. But once the tissue is dead, it cannot come back.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining supportive therapy, especially with Mito Organelle peptides after stem cell treatment. “Stem cells initiate recovery, but peptides keep it going. For Parkinson’s, yearly treatments are best.”

Environmental and Lifestyle Factors

Prof. Chan also pointed out environmental links:

We see more Parkinson’s cases in oil-rich areas, due to toxins in the air and soil. It’s a mix of environment, genetics, and head trauma.

He drew parallels to his research on sports concussions, noting that repeated trauma to the brain increases risk. “Parkinson’s may begin with slight tremors, but if untreated, it becomes debilitating.”

A Message to Others with Parkinson’s

“Don’t be ashamed,” said Tan Sri Bakri. “If you do nothing, you’ll suffer. It’s not the end of the world. There is hope.”

Now 71, Bakri remains active, alert, and driven to share his story to inspire others. “I gained back my confidence. I can do anything now—small or big, because I have my life back.”

Leading the Future of Regenerative Medicine

Tan Sri Bakri’s journey is more than a personal victory, it is a beacon of hope for others battling Parkinson’s and neurodegenerative conditions. His story underscores the transformative power of personalised, science-backed care and the global potential of regenerative medicine.

Thanks to Prof. Mike Chan and the team at European Wellness, stories like his are no longer medical miracle. They are becoming tomorrow’s standard of care.
