KOTA KINABALU, Sabah (July 18, 2026) — Sabah’s professional boxing scene entered a new chapter on July 17 as Sabah Minister of Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan officially opened BAM Championship Fight Night 2026 at Dewan Sri Putatan, marking the first professional boxing tournament ever staged in the Putatan district.
Joining him was Putatan Member of Parliament Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, as the arena welcomed Sabah’s rising boxing talents alongside fighters from other Malaysian states and international contenders for an action-packed night of professional competition.

Beyond the fights, the championship also signaled a broader push to strengthen athlete development in Sabah. Held following the newly signed partnership between Kelab Tinju Profesional Kinabalu (KTPK) and the European Wellness Sports Science Regenerative Centre, the event highlighted how advanced sports science, regenerative approaches, and recovery technologies can support athletes in training, injury recovery, and performance.
The championship also opened discussion about boxing’s potential beyond professional competition. During the event, Datuk Nizam highlighted the state’s interest in exploring boxing programs in schools, citing the sport’s potential to develop discipline, emotional control, and positive character among young people while helping address issues such as bullying.

In his Facebook post after the event, Datuk Nizam described the inaugural professional BAM Championship in Putatan as an important milestone for Sabah boxing, providing a platform to discover new talent and help local athletes progress to the international stage. He also highlighted boxing’s potential as a professional career and part of the growing digital sports economy.
“We want to see more Sabah athletes succeed, not only at the state level, but also advance into the global professional arena and make their mark on the world stage,” he said.
He added that the Sabah government sees potential in introducing boxing at a younger age through schools, while reaffirming his ministry’s support for initiatives that develop athletes and expand opportunities in professional sports.

Under blazing arena lights and before an enthusiastic Sabah crowd, BAM Championship 2026 delivered an evening of high-energy professional boxing at Dewan Sri Putatan, bringing together fighters, sporting officials, supporters, and the growing world of sports science.
From the opening bouts to the presentation of prizes inside the ring, the July 17 championship carried the atmosphere of a major fight night. Boxers traded determined performances across the card, while European Wellness branding around the arena reflected its growing involvement in Sabah’s professional boxing scene through its new collaboration with Kelab Tinju Profesional Kinabalu (KTPK).

The championship followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KTPK and the European Wellness Sports Science Regenerative Centre a day earlier—turning the partnership from an announcement into a visible presence at one of Sabah’s latest professional boxing events. The tournament featured fighters whose teams had prepared for two to three months, with participation drawn from Sandakan, Tongod, Tambunan, Penampang, and Kota Kinabalu. (Daily Express)
A Night of Relentless Action

Inside the ring, the atmosphere shifted quickly from anticipation to intensity.
The photographs from fight night capture the story vividly: fighters pressing forward under the spotlights, exchanging combinations at close range and battling through fiercely contested rounds as spectators watched from around the arena.
Beyond individual results, the evening showcased the depth of emerging boxing talent in Sabah and the determination of fighters seeking to establish themselves on a larger professional stage.
The event was also designed for an audience beyond Dewan Sri Putatan. Earlier bouts were made available through free broadcasts, while the main evening program was carried through TV Sabah’s OTT platform, extending the championship’s reach beyond those seated ringside. (TV Sabah | News Portals)

Meredy on the Spotlight

Her presentation provided one of the evening’s celebratory moments, contrasting sharply with the intensity captured in the action photographs moments earlier.
Around the ring, European Wellness’ sports medicine displays reinforced another theme running through the championship: that the modern boxer’s journey involves more than what happens between the ropes.
Preparation, injury management, recovery, and the ability to return safely to training are increasingly important components of an athlete’s competitive career.
European Wellness Takes Sports Science Ringside
The prominent presence of the European Wellness Sports Science Regenerative Centre (EW-SSRC) was particularly significant following its strategic partnership with KTPK.

European Wellness sports-science displays stood alongside the ring throughout the event, highlighting athlete recovery and sports-injury support while its branding was visible across the competition venue.
The partnership aims to give Sabah athletes greater access to sports-medicine expertise and recovery technologies while strengthening the professional development pathway for local fighters.

KTPK Secretary Zairul Hijoo said earlier that the collaboration would open opportunities for Sabah athletes to benefit from injury-recovery technology and sports-medicine expertise. He also acknowledged support from the Sabah sports authorities, European Wellness, and the Malaysian Professional Boxing Federation in making the championship possible. (Daily Express)

The initiative reflects the wider vision of European Wellness Chairman Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan: bringing regenerative and preventive health concepts into sport so that athletes are supported not simply for one competition but throughout the demands of training, recovery, and longer sporting careers.
From Twins 104 to BAM Championship
For European Wellness, BAM Championship 2026 also builds on its earlier involvement in combat sports through Twins Championship 104 in May 2026.

That earlier event provided a first showcase for European Wellness’ sports science approach alongside competitive fighters. The BAM Championship represents the next chapter—with its involvement now connected to a formal partnership aimed at developing athlete support and professional boxing in Sabah.
The significance therefore extends beyond any single victory.
Across two separate tournaments, European Wellness has now been associated with winning athletes while advancing a model that places greater emphasis on the science surrounding competition: preparation, recovery, injury management, and sustained performance.
The athletes and their coaches remain at the heart of every result. Sports science does not replace training, discipline, or fighting ability; its role is to support athletes as they withstand the demands of competitive sport.

BAM Championship 2026 was not simply a succession of fights. It brought together athletes, coaches, sports administrators, medical and recovery specialists, and supporters around a shared ambition to elevate Sabah boxing.
