Eating a healthy and balanced diet is essential, especially during this time when we are mostly homebound. A suitable food group combination is not only beneficial for healthy individuals, but also to those who are sick and experiencing digestive problems. One of the factors that contribute to the digestive issue is eating incompatible foods. The idea of eating a compatible food combination is adaptable to our daily food intake.
Consuming carbohydrates (starch) and proteins together may slow down their absorption. Similarly, eating sugars and acid fruits delay digestion. The process of starch digestion starts in the mouth. However, if food is not chewed properly, it will not be fully digested in the stomach hence the absorption of nutrients in small intestine can’t be maximized and eventually will lead to nutrient deficiency in the long run. Consumption of fats also interrupt with the release of digestive juices; hence they are to be prevented or taken sparingly with protein-rich foods.
