Prof Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan Awarded Second Datukship in Recognition of his Healthcare Contributions
KOTA KINABALU, October 2024 – Prof Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan was honored with his second Datukship on Friday (Oct 4). This prestigious recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to regenerative medicine and healthcare innovation.
Prof Chan was among the 87 individuals awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) in conjunction with the 71st birthday of the Sabah Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
Known worldwide for his groundbreaking work in stem cell therapy and proactive health solutions, Prof Chan’s well-deserved title was conferred in recognition of his exceptional contributions to biotechnology, medical wellness tourism, and education in the state.
This award adds to Prof Chan’s legacy as a pioneer in bio-regenerative medicine, where his efforts have brought global attention to Sabah. Through his work with stem cell therapies and immunology, Prof Chan has positioned Sabah as a premier destination for medical wellness, attracting royalty, celebrities, and medical professionals from around the world.
Notably, the European Wellness Academy, under his leadership, has gained international recognition, training doctors from the USA, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, the Middle East, and across Asia. These professionals frequently visit Sabah, combining vacation with their education, thereby boosting the local tourism industry as well.
Although Prof Chan could not attend the official ceremony on October 4, 2024, due to commitments overseas, his name has been confirmed and gazetted with this prestigious honor. His dedication to advancing healthcare and wellness continues to inspire, and this title further solidifies his legacy as a visionary leader in medical wellness.
The award ceremony was attended by notable figures including Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who was awarded the highest state honor, the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), alongside Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, and shipping businessman Datuk Kumar Prabakaran.
