A Meeting of Sports, Cinema and Regenerative Medicine

(A.I. Impression) Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan with legendary sports agent Leigh Steinberg — the real-life inspiration behind Jerry Maguire, and international promoter Eduard Irimia. What began as a private medical visit has grown into a broader collaboration connecting sports leadership, media influence, and advances in regenerative medicine, with future international platforms set to amplify their global impact.

The legendary sports agent Leigh Steinberg, widely known as the real-life inspiration behind the Hollywood film Jerry Maguire starring Tom Cruise, continues to build new collaborations that bridge sports, media, and science.

In a recent conversation with international promoter Eduard Irimia, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan spoke about his ongoing relationship with Steinberg and the wider cultural impact surrounding the iconic sports agent.

Eduard Irimia is a Romanian entrepreneur, producer, and branding expert known for founding the Superkombat Fighting Championship and co-founding iSuccess, a global platform celebrating success across industries like tech, fashion, and film. iSuccess holds exclusive networking galas in locations like Cannes, Dubai, and Venice.

Irimia remarked on Steinberg’s global reputation, noting that the film made him famous for the unforgettable line, “Show me the money!”, a phrase that became synonymous with athlete negotiations and sports management.

Prof. Chan added that his connection with Steinberg goes beyond entertainment history.

“I’m treating the real Jerry Maguire—Leigh Steinberg,” he said, referring to the regenerative therapy he provided to the renowned sports agent.

“We first met in U.S. when I treated him for sciatica, and that experience sparked a friendship and collaboration that has since grown into our joint mission to advance athlete brain health.”

The encounter marked the beginning of a broader partnership between the sports world and regenerative medicine. Steinberg, long recognized as a leading advocate for athlete safety and concussion awareness, later joined Prof. Chan in initiatives addressing brain injuries in professional sports, including their collaboration on the book Concussion: The Hidden Trauma in Contact Sports and the NFL.

Looking ahead, Irimia suggested that future international platforms, including events in Bucharest and Cannes, could help amplify the global reach of their work.

What began as a private medical visit between a pioneering scientist and the man who inspired one of Hollywood’s most famous sports films has since evolved into a wider collaboration, linking sports leadership, media influence, and advances in regenerative medicine.

Growing Global Media Attention

The expanding collaboration between sports leadership and regenerative medicine comes at a time when Prof. Mike Chan’s work is attracting increasing international media attention. In February 2026, he was featured on the cover of I SUCCESS Magazine, which highlighted his role as a global pioneer in longevity science and regenerative medicine.

The feature positioned Prof. Chan alongside a roster of international celebrities and influential personalities previously featured by the publication, underscoring the growing recognition of his work beyond the medical community.

The magazine profile explored how his research into organ-specific cellular therapy and precision regenerative medicine has helped place Malaysia, particularly Kota Kinabalu, on the global map for biomedical innovation.

The coverage also reflected a broader shift in public interest toward longevity science, an area where Prof. Chan has spent more than four decades advocating a simple but powerful principle: extending healthspan, not just lifespan.
