Global Medical Experts Join Prof. Mike Chan in Bulgaria to Advance Regenerative Medicine and Scientific Collaboration

The international delegation brings together leading specialists from Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia in regenerative medicine, respiratory medicine, stem cell technology, and AI-driven healthcare.

SOFIA, Bulgaria (July 14, 2026) — Some of the world’s leading medical specialists and scientific innovators came together in Bulgaria as Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan joined a distinguished international delegation exploring new opportunities for collaboration in regenerative medicine, medical research, and next-generation healthcare.
The nine-member delegation brought together expertise from Malaysia, Germany, Japan, and Taiwan, spanning regenerative medicine, pulmonology, stem cell technology, neurosurgery, artificial intelligence, and international medical technology transfer.
Prof. Mike participated as a Malaysian scientist and regenerative medicine pioneer while also serving in his capacity as senator for healthcare with BWA Germany, strengthening the mission’s connections between Asian and European medical and scientific communities.
The scientific program formed part of a wider official mission initiated at the highest levels of the Bulgarian government, including Prof. Mike’s meeting with Prime Minister Rumen Radev and engagements with key government ministries.
Global Experts Advancing Medical Innovation
Among the delegation’s most distinguished members were two internationally recognized German physicians—Prof. Dr. Christian Witt of Berlin and Prof. Dr. Felix Herth of Heidelberg.
Prof. Witt is a senior professor at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest and most renowned university hospitals. With more than four decades of medical experience, he is widely recognized for his expertise in pulmonology, respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and transplantation medicine.
Prof. Herth is the medical director of the Department of Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine at Thoraxklinik, Heidelberg University Hospital, an internationally recognized specialist center for lung diseases. A pioneer in interventional pulmonology, he is known globally for advancing minimally invasive approaches to diagnosing and treating complex respiratory conditions.
Their participation provided an important opportunity to explore stronger links between regenerative medicine and established academic and clinical research.
Prof. Mike said bringing specialists from different disciplines together is essential to advancing medicine beyond traditional boundaries.
“Our future lies in international scientific partnerships. When researchers, clinicians, and governments work together, innovation moves much faster and patients benefit sooner.”

Japanese Expertise in Stem Cell Innovation
The delegation also included Prof. Dr. Shunmei Chiba and Mr. Nishiza Seiki of Japan, who form a leading team in regenerative medicine innovation and international medical technology transfer.
Prof. Chiba is a neurosurgeon, regenerative medicine specialist and Founder and CEO of FullStem Co., Ltd. He developed the patented Achieva-CS three-dimensional stem cell culture platform, designed to advance large-scale stem cell processing and regenerative medicine applications.
Dr. Nishiza, Chairman of the Kyushu Association for the Promotion of Advanced Medical Welfare, focuses on international healthcare partnerships and the transfer of advanced Japanese medical technologies into overseas markets.
Together, they combine scientific innovation with international technology transfer, helping connect advanced Japanese regenerative medicine technologies with healthcare institutions and partners across Asia and beyond.

Taiwan Brings Neurosurgery and AI Expertise
Adding another dimension to the multidisciplinary delegation were Taiwanese neurosurgeon Dr. Lu Lan-Chin and AI healthcare specialist Mr. Hsu Min-Huei.
Their participation broadened discussions into the growing convergence between medicine and technology, particularly the potential role of artificial intelligence, data-driven healthcare, and advanced digital technologies in supporting diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and future personalized medicine.
The combination of regenerative medicine specialists, pulmonologists, neurosurgeons, stem cell innovators, and AI expertise demonstrated the increasingly multidisciplinary nature of modern healthcare research.
Strengthening Scientific Bridges Between Europe and Asia
The Bulgaria mission provided a platform for building stronger connections among governments, universities, hospitals, scientists, and medical innovators from Europe and Asia.
For Prof. Mike, it also represented an opportunity to strengthen Malaysia’s presence within the international regenerative medicine community while leveraging his healthcare role with BWA Germany to encourage deeper scientific and institutional cooperation.
The participation of leading specialists such as Prof. Christian Witt, Prof. Felix Herth, Prof. Shunmei Chiba, Mr. Nishiza Seiki, Dr. Lu Lan-Chin, and Mr. Hsu Min-Huei underscored the international caliber of the delegation.
“Regenerative medicine has become a truly global effort. By sharing knowledge across borders, we create better solutions for healthier aging and better quality of life.”
As governments worldwide seek sustainable healthcare solutions for rapidly aging populations, Bulgaria’s interest in healthspan medicine and regenerative healthcare could pave the way for future collaborations linking Europe with Asian biomedical expertise.
Together, their expertise reflected a common objective: to build stronger scientific partnerships capable of translating research, technology, and medical knowledge into better healthcare for the future.
