Prof. Mike Chan Welcomes Early Victory

Coming so soon after Friday’s MOU signing, the result has been widely viewed as a symbolic lift for Sabah FC’s integration of science-based recovery and performance protocols.

European Wellness founder Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mike Chan said the performance reflected both the players’ determination and the early benefits of structured recovery support.

“I’m very proud of the boys tonight. Their endurance, sharpness and tenacity stood out,” he said.

He added that EWPC’s approach is designed to strengthen essential physiological and cognitive factors in athletes:

“We can make it even better. We can add our other integrative holistic therapies to super-boost their stamina and endurance further by making the heart withstand faster, optimised beatings, and building stronger, bigger lung capacity with oxygen to run faster than their opponents and endure longer. Next, their reflexes and focusing ability can be enhanced by fine-tuning the frontal lobe. That is how athletes stay sharp.”

Elite Medical Science for Modern Football

Earlier, during his speech on Friday, Prof Mike Chan explained: “The demands of today’s game require not only skill but consistent physical resilience. This partnership gives our players access to world-class recovery systems to stay strong throughout the season.”

“These therapies are designed to enhance stamina, improve lung and heart efficiency, support adrenal resilience and sharpen cognitive focus,

“But it’s not just stamina — endurance matters. The treatments are also designed to help players run faster in the second half, stay strong through extra time, and maintain performance on the field when it counts the most,” adding that science-based performance optimization is becoming integral to modern football.

Over the past three weeks, Sabah FC players have been undergoing consistent twice-weekly Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) sessions at EWPC, including scheduled treatments two days before every home match. The routine has become a key part of their preparation and recovery cycle.

Head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny said the use of the chambers has already begun to show clear results in player performance. “We’re seeing improvements in speed and endurance. Two weeks ago, not a single player experienced cramp — something that’s almost unheard of in Asian football, except maybe in Japan. In our recent match against Selangor, one of the players even covered 11 kilometres on the pitch. But above all, the biggest change is the mental sharpness the players show after the match,” he said.

The scoreboard at Likas Stadium on Sunday night reflects Sabah FC’s 3–2 lead late in the second half—setting the stage for a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.

New Partnership Sets Stage

Friday’s MOU established EWPC as Sabah FC’s official sports-rehabilitation and performance partner, introducing advanced diagnostics, musculoskeletal screening and hyperbaric oxygen therapy into the team’s preparation and recovery programmes.

While both parties acknowledge that meaningful transformation will unfold over time, Sunday night’s victory offered a morale-boosting glimpse of what integrated sports-science support may deliver.

For now, the club celebrates an important win, not only on the scoreboard but for the belief and direction it brings. As Sabah FC continues its climb in the league, the combination of determination on the field and scientific support off it signals a promising new era for football in the state.
